Hungary to bring legal action over Norway Grants
The Hungarian government will take legal action over the seizure of talks with the Norway Grants on the distribution of funds in Hungary, the Prime Minister’s office said on Wednesday.
Under the agreement between the two countries, the body distributing the funds should be appointed in a concensus between the two countries, the statement said.
Hungary “was ready to accept any of the seven applicants except for Ökotárs, a Soros organisation,” the ministry said. Norway “insisted on” Ökotárs, excluding internationally acclaimed tenderers such as the Hungarian Red Cross, the statement said.
Norway is violating its commitments as a member in the European Economic Area, the ministry said.
“Hungary states that Norway is indebted to Hungary for 77 billion forints [EUR 216.4m] in exchange for access to its markets,” the statement said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) slammed the government, saying Hungary had “lost out” on 77 billion forints. Should the opposition win the election in 2022, the talks will be reopened, DK MEP Klára Dobrev said.

Money from Norway supported anti patriotic NGOs. The NGOs are Soros’ pets and were trained to sell out the country. No money is worth that. Now, the anti patriotic NGOs may have to get a job or leave and create chaos in another country.
Maybe I missed something here, but according to the agreement: “ The EEA and Norway Grants are a voluntary contribution on the part of the donor countries to help achieve this goal.” Hence, Norway can decide unilaterally to give or not the funds. Maybe this is part of a bigger deal that I have no idea, and that could have other consequences. But, in any case, threatening with legal actions and using this arrogant narrative depict again a government unable to negotiate. They got too much used to bully and lie within the country that they forgot how democracy works
Roger is correct. Norway is not a member of the EU, it is in the EEA and the money it pays into the EU budget is for access to the single market and tariff free trading. What is it with Hungarian Government? It is picking fights with everyone, except Putin and the CCP. Hungary is now a communist country again in all but name.
I fully agree with Maria. Roger and the second guy have no clue what they are talking about. God bless Orbán!
Hello… A grant from Norway is a gift. If they decide not to give the gift that’s their choice. Norway looked at the corrupt , anti-democratic and anti-social policies of Hungary under OV and decided they did not deserve a reward. Simple. If Hungary wants to bring legal action against Norway for not giving gifts it simply shows Hungarian stupidity again.
“Just send us the money! We are entitled! I know you earned it – but we want it and need it!”
Same for the EU cash, obviously. How will we show economic growth if nobody is sponsoring our way?
